dante's peak

movie summary: A volcanologist arrives at a countryside named Dante’s Peak after a long dormant volcano, which has recently been named the second most desirable place to live in America, and discovers that Dante’s Peak, may wake up at any moment. (www.imdb.com)

my thoughts: Dante’s Peak is a great special effects/action movie for the late 1990’s. This movie had some stiff competition from the movie “Volcano” but wins points for how down to earth and possible the storyline is. Pierce Bronson plays Harry Dalton who comes to a small town with intentions of studying a volcano that has shown signs of life. The mayor of town is played by Linda Hamilton, who has lived there her whole life and can’t believe anything bad could ever happen. Harry’s crew move into town to conduct more scientific research, although they all believe he is crazy with his initial analysis. Within a few weeks of setting up camp, the crew see no signs of eruption and decide to pack up. Harry has a gut feeling the worse is yet to come and that everyone is in danger. After a few minor earthquakes, the volcano produces a huge ash cloud that covers the town. No one has been evacuated yet and it’s a race for survival as the mountain is about to erupt.

Anyone who likes those somewhat cheesy, predictable 90’s action movies would enjoy Dante’s Peak.

my star rating: 8 out 10
