movie summary: The story of a tourist family in Thailand caught in the destruction and chaotic aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. (www.imdb.com)

my thoughts: The Impossible is based on real events. A family is staying at a resort in Thailand when a tsunami hits and wipes out everything. The family of five is split up, Maria (Naomi Watts) and oldest son Lucas (Tom Holland) are swept away in the massive tidal waves and strong under current. Once the pair resurface and find dry land, they believe everyone in their family is dead. After the water resides search and rescue teams show up, although there appear to be no survivors. Maria and Lucas are taken to a nearby town and placed in a chaotic hospital for treatment. Together they struggle with the pain of their injuries and the fact that their family is missing.

This movie is about courage, overcoming adversity, and the desire to live. The great performances by Watts and Holland will bring tears to your eyes.

my star rating: 7 out 10
