run time: 106 mins
considered: Drama, Thriller
starring: Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Amber Heard
movie summary: An entry-level employee at a powerful corporation finds himself occupying a corner office, but at a dangerous price: he must spy on his boss’s old mentor to secure for him a multi-billion dollar advantage. (www.imdb.com)
my thoughts: Paranoia features a recycled plot with parts of different movies all rolled into one. In the typical corporate greed theme, Liam Hemsworth plays Adam Cassidy a lower level employee in a major cell phone development company. After a poor presentation, he gets fired, only to get a new job…an executive level spy. Gary Oldman plays an a vicious cut throat company president Nicolas Wyatt, who used to be partners with Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). Goddard is now his biggest competition with a future project that could change the cell phone world. Cassidy is brought in as an executive in Goddard’s company, where his main goal is to build trust and steal the new product.
This movie has gotten horrible ratings on the major review sites, although I disagree with them. I knew exactly what Paranoia was about when I bought my ticket. The movie did entertain me, it was fun to watch the events unfold and see all the double crosses at the end. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who wants to watch it in theatres, save your $12 and wait for it on video on demand.
