Monsters University (2013)

run time: 104 mins
rated: G
considered: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
starring: Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi

movie summary: A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at Monsters University — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends. (

my thoughts: Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) went on an elementary school trip to Monsters Inc, when his dream of becoming a scarer was born. Despite being a book-worm and achieving excellent marks, Mike is not ugly or scary enough to be a scarer. He apples to Monsters University where he meets James Sullivan (John Goodman). James plays the typical jock and partying college guy, who is destined to succeed without actually doing any hard work. Together the pair get kicked out of school but can win back their way back by competing in the annual Scare Games.

James and Mike must recruit the school’s out-casts to form a team and enter the games. Together the pair have to learn the importance of team work to be successful. During their run to the Scare Games Title, the duo form a bond that will make them one of the best scaring teams in the history of Monsters Inc.

MU may not be as fun as the original, but it will keep the kids entertained with animation and jokes. Adults will enjoy the decent back story to the original Monsters Inc.

my star rating: 6 out 10
