my thoughts: I went to see You’re Next because it had a rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I wanted to see how much of a rip off it would be compared to the Strangers (2008). I definitely got my money’s worth and then some with one of 2013’s best movies.
You’re Next starts out with two random people getting killed by three guys wearing animal masks. This random attack is a little foreshadowing of what’s to come. The next day, the Davison family (mom, dad, three brothers, one sister, and their significant others) all return to their old family home out in the country side for a reunion. As darkness begins to creep in, everyone sits down for dinner. After the food is served, arguments break out amongst the brothers and before things get really heated, arrows break the windows and kill one person. Everyone scrambles to hide and find cover, while arrows continue to break windows all over the house.
The mask men begin to terrorize the house from inside and out. One by one people start to die, some by their own stupidity, while others die trying to get help. As the body count raises, we finally start to figure out who the mastermind behind this evil plot was.
Anyone who sits down and watches this movie, will think they know the plot and ending, but will be shocked and surprised as the story unfolds and turns out completely different. This unique film puts a new spin on the classic slasher movie.
