my thoughts: Michael Myers ends up dead for the third straight movie……or has he? After being ripped to shreds by bullets at the end of Halloween 4, Michael manages to crawl out of the hole he falls into and floats down the river. He gets caught in a fishing net before being rescued by a fisherman who nurses him back to health over the course of a year.
Jaime (Danielle Harris) has spent the last year under care of the Haddonfield Children’s hospital. She hasn’t spoken a word since that fateful night that she stabbed her step-mom. On Halloween Eve she starts to have nightmares and wakes up to realize Michael is alive and she can now sense his every move. She goes into shock after Michael kills the fisherman who cared for him and turns his sights back to finding her.
Michael returns to Jaime’s house, finally kills Rachel (Ellie Cornell), and starts to stalk her new roommate Tina (Wendy Kaplan). Jaime has a mental breakdown at the clinic which convinces Tina to visit and she speaks for the first time in a year. Jaime warns that the boogeyman is chasing her but Tina laughs at the thought.
Jaime escapes the clinic to follow Tina to a Halloween party, but neither girl realise Michael is right behind them. He kills several of Tina’s friends before chasing her down with a car. Jaime shows up, so Michael changes his target. Tina sacrifices herself so Jaime can escape. Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) rescues Jaime after finding her wandering in the woods alone. He yells to Michael that he if wants the little girl he needs to return home.
The cops and swat teams prepare for Michael’s arrival, but he has different plans. He lures them all away with an attack at the clinic before coming home. After chasing Jaime throughout the house Loomis sets a trap and captures Michael. He is taken to the police station before he is broken out by a mysterious man in black.
On their way out of the police station Jaime is kidnapped and neither are heard from again.
Halloween 5 is not as scary as the previous installment, but there is more blood shed and murders in this movie. The franchise begins to take a turn for the worst with the introduction of the man in black, who saves Michael and can “control” him. Up until now, it was believed and portrayed that Michael was pure evil and can not be controlled. This film sends mixed messages about how human Michael could actually be. One bright spot again for this reboot is the acting of Danielle Harris. I give her a lot of credit for being chased by a man in a mask and not be freaked out in real life. Maybe she makes it through each take because she doesn’t have to listen to the eerie Halloween theme music when Michael is stalking his next victim.
