movie summary: Las Vegas is a place where wild things happen, memories turn out to be good or bad (depending on your experience), and the city is where gambling and weddings can bring out the best or worse in people. The gang from Think Like a Man in Los Angeles hit the Vegas strip to celebrate Michael (Terrence Jenkins) and Candice’s (Regina Hall) wedding. Cedric (Kevin Hart) has somehow turned into the best man and planned the greatest night out for the guys while Lauren (Taraji P. Henson) has laid out a wild night for girls. The night looks great on paper but once the booze start flowing the gang is in for one heck of a night and adventure that may ruin the whole point of the trip.

Zeke (Romany Malco) and Mya (Meagan Good) show up first only to run into one of Zeke’s old friends who spends a few minutes telling stories of how wild Zeke the Freak used to be. Mya doesn’t want to hear these stories so storms off, Zeke is already in the dog house and the trip hasn’t even begun. Next up is Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara) and his fiance Kristen (Gabrielle Union) show up with Bennett (Gary Owen) and his wife Tish (Wendi McLendon-Covey). Jeremy is moody because Kristen is trying to get pregnant and they now have sex on a set schedule which takes away all the fun and romance. Cedric rolls into the hotel with a Lamborghini, he’s acting like a big shot despite only standing 5’4″ he checks into the most expensive suite in the hotel using his ex-wife’s company credit card. He believes he has gotten a great deal on the $40,000/night suite for only $4,000 but he’ll be in for a wild night when he finds out the truth. Dominic (Michael Ealy) shows up a few minutes before Lauren and the two start making out since they have been apart for 10 days due to business trips. Finally Michael and Candice show up along with Michael’s mom Loretta (Jenifer Lewis). Everyone has checked in and Cedric lays out the ground work for the night, they all have an hour to relax, change, and meet in the lobby. Only Michael and Lauren go back to the room for some private time before making it down.

The guys gather in Cedric’s room before going downstairs for drinks and some light gambling in casino. The girls meanwhile invade Candice’s room to begin their night. Cedric hits up the blackjack table where he begins to lose all his money, his ex-wife Gail (Wendy Williams) starts calling him but he avoids answering the call. Meanwhile upstairs the girls night out is ruined when Loretta shows up and says no daughter in law of his will have any wild crazy bachelorette party. The girls are upset that Loretta is calling the shots with wine, pedicures, and no excitement. Candice’s uncle Eddie (Dennis Haysbert) shows up to sweet talk Loretta into attending a Dionne Warwick concert and a fancy dinner after, the girls push the couple out the door and change to hit the strip.

Lauren has arranged to steal the guy’s party bus leaving the guys with their male stripper limo. Cedric refuses to get into the limo and tells everyone they are going to walk. While walking Zeke answers his phone only to find out it’s Gail. Cedric talks to her to find out about his hotel bill and freaks out. He employs Dominic to distract the guys at the club so he can go back and gamble to win the $50,000 he needs to pay for the room. After an hour Michael decides to head back to find Cedric who is up $10,000. After the good energy is lost when the guys show up he hits up a crabs table only to have Zeke pull his bet. The guys break out into a fight while the girls finally get to the strip club where they plan to get Candice a lap dance on her final night of freedom. Outside of the casino Cedric is stressing about paying the bill when Bennett pulls out a flyer about auditioning as amateur male strippers, it could pay up to $50,000 to Cedric convinces everyone to go.

Inside the male strip club Michael walks out on the stage to find Candace on stage getting freaky with a stripper, he runs up and punches the guy, and the rest of the gang raid the stage. The girls see their men getting their ass kicked so jump up on stage and before anyone knows it the whole club has broken out into a brawl. Everyone is arrested and thrown in jail over night. No one knows who to call to bail them out since their significant others are in the slammer too. Michael tries his mom three times but she is having the night of her life with Uncle Eddie.

Morning rolls around and everyone is still in jail, Michael and Candice’s wedding is in the late morning but without getting bailed out they might not make it.

my thoughts: I was pretty excited about the sequel to Think Like a Man and wondered how they would pull it off. Amazingly everyone came back to reprise their role from the first film, even though I bet it was just the bright lights of Las Vegas that brought them back. The way all their couples’ storylines end in this movie I would not be surprised to see a third one film in the near future. My hope is whatever they do in that movie it does not follow the same story/plot as this one.

This sequel is filled with just as many laughs as the first one and but follows the same exact formula as Think Like a Man, in that all the couples experience some sort of difficulty except for Bennett and Tish. Jeremy is not ready to take the next step in their relationship by becoming a father, Zeke’s playing days are coming back to haunt him, Michael can’t break free from his mom’s grasp, Dominic finds out Lauren got promoted and may be leaving him, and Cedric is avoiding Gail at all costs. Only thing that changed from the first one film to the second one is the setting.

Kevin Hart once again steals the show with his over zealous personality and crazy antics. He’s the main reason why people will line up to see the movie just to watch the trouble he gets himself into. The rest of the cast has grown up and matured into their characters to the point where their relationships are now a major part of their lives. Everyone is given their fair share of screen time but there is not much for together time except at the beginning and the end. Not one character really sticks out more then other except for Cedric and even though this is Michael and Candace’s big day they take a back seat to so many other things.

I felt the music video part of the movie which featured the girls at the club singing some 90s song called Posion was totally not needed and did nothing for the overall story. Also the jail sequence was dragged out a little and having everyone in there with their stripper outfit was a little over the top even for Vegas standards.

my final thoughts: Think Like a Man 2 is funny for all the right reasons even though it doesn’t provide us with anything we haven’t seen in the first movie. I will watch this again because I enjoy the original so much but I will most likely not own or pay full price to see it again.
