The Gallows (2015)

What did I like?

The director took the shaky cam/found footage of this event to a different place this time around. There’s always a haunted house somewhere but horror movies never really focus in on haunted schools. I believe there could be a gold mine of untapped stories involving haunted schools and for various reasons. I loved the twist at the end, I did not see it coming and even if you did, I wouldn’t believe you.

What didn’t I like?

How in the middle of the high school, in the middle of the city, there is never any cell service. How dumb do they really think we are?? Also when is anyone ever gonna learn not to leave other people alone?? Has no one in this generation seen Scream yet?

Was The Gallows a good story?

This is a tough question to answer because to some people this is just another mindless stupid “scary” horror movie with shaky cams. On the other hand this movie deserves some recognition for finally stepping out of the stereotypical box and giving us a new back drop for a haunting story.

Notable Performances?

Everyone is pretty interchangeable in the movie, except the creepy dead guy doing the scaring.

Would I recommend it?

Yes, only when it leaves theatres and finds a home on Netflix. I wouldn’t recommend you spend the big bucks to catch it now. I personally feel The Gallows is better than the majority of horror movies released in 2015 and that included the dumb It Follows, Insidious 3, and The Lazarus Effect.
