The Promise gives us a dark look into one of history’s worse crimes against humanity, but it also gives us one of Oscar Issac’s best screen performances. Issac is probably one of the most underrated actors of this generation and his abilities are on full display here. If you can get past the love triangle that is one of the focal points of story, you’ll learn about what the Turkish government did to the Armenia people before World War I, and the sacrifices many made to survive. Gutting wrenching and highly emotional, The Promise takes a slow journey to depict one of history’s rather unknown moments.
