Any movie that has a conspiracy theory attached to the story and main characters has to be a great movie right? Ferris Bueller is that legend. Ask anyone who he is and even the people who don’t watch movies know who he is. Whether they think he is a punk for skipping school or a cool kid who can make extraordinary things out of nothing, everyone would probably admit it would be awesome to be his friend. This iconic film of the 1980’s is set during a time when everything that occurs one amazing day, is actually possible. Technology and social media have completely changed the way society acts, so it’s even tougher to skip school, attend afternoon ball games, and sing in a parade, without bragging about it to your friends. That’s the beauty and charm about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, it takes these down to earth kids who have regular hopes, dreams, and emotions like everyone and keeps things real. Sure most of the stunts in this movie are over the top and probably not quite possible all in one day, but fate really plays a big part of the story and that’s one of best things about it. Ferris is a pop culture icon that gets referenced in movies, TV shows, and social media. I honestly don’t think anyone who wrote the script would have expected this loveable character to linger in the minds of movie goers for decades. I know a handful of people who can’t stand this movie and I totally respect their opinions. I grew up in the 1980’s so I totally understand the humor and story being told here. If anyone was to watch Ferris Bueller today, their opinions might be way different since most of us have had our expectations changed due to the endless raunchy comedies that parade through theaters now a days. People who love Ferris, also love the other iconic films of the decade like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, the films that really focused on the joys and troubles of what life is like as a teenager.
I haven’t seen this film yet.
