Flatliners (2017)

As of this writing, Flatliners has a 4% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which a step up from the 0% it once had. I will defend this movie because it was NOT the worse movie released this year. Come on people, we got to show a little bit of love for a movie shot in Toronto, filled with three Canadian actors/actresses. I’ve never seen the original, but appreciate the cameo by Kiefer Sutherland. As far as the story goes, it does really feel like a sub par horror movie, because once you cross over to the dark side, the majority of us know nothing positive ever comes from that. It was interesting to see how not so innocent these medical students are and how they had to make peace with their mistakes to move on with their lives. Flatliners will disappoint the majority of movie goers who read negative reviews, but if you go into it with an open mind you may just appreciate a few things like I did. 3/10

  1. This film has so much potential that is wasted. The core idea of gods-in-training toying with death is great, but because the film is so repetitive it never rises in tension or narrative interest. I still gave it 2 1/2 out of five stars.

    1. Everyone had different experiences and their own personal demons to confront, but when you repeat the same bring them back sequences, I can see how you felt that way.
