For Love of the Game (1999)

For Love of the Game combines two of my favorite genres into one movie that is fun, inspiring, emotional, and heart warming. I will agree that several points throughout the film you will wish Kevin Costner’s character would get hit by a line drive to the head, but once you come to understand the kind of man he is, you will like him. Bill Chapel (Costner) has it all and nothing at the same time. On the verge of retirement in potential last game, in one of the most intimidating ball parks of all-time, we get taken on an emotional roller coaster ride of the highs and lows of being a star pitcher. The chemistry Costner shares with Kelly Preston is amazing, because their on again off again relationship seems so effortless to act out. Towards the end the film focuses in more on the pitching than the personal drama, but there is really two amazing stories in one film that run parallel with each other flawlessly. I love this movie so much, I may track down the book someday and read it. 9/10
