Anytime Hilary Duff stars in a movie, two things will happen. First she’ll either sing in the film or at the very least have a song that she sings somewhere in the middle. In Raise Your Voice, we get the luxury of both, since she’s a gifted singer who gets to pursue a dream at a fancy music school. The script follows the typical lead character loses someone important and finds the courage to pursue dreams cliché. I thought John Corbett was pretty fun here as a music teacher who tries his best to get the most out of Duff’s character. In the end, the singing competition is the highlight of the film, that gives you emotional types a chance to shed a tear. 6/10
