Breathe (2017)

Breathe looked like the kind of movie that I would have had little interest in, but was something that my girlfriend was overly excited to see. What really got me out to see Breathe was the fact it was Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, and I just had to see how good it was. Thanks to the brilliant performances from Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, Serkis’ vision on this true story really turned this drama into an inspiring tear jerker. There were several occasions when my eyes were watery as we watch a couple so in love with each other, struggle to keep it together and moving forward. The story does move at a slow pace for much of the movie, but like I mentioned earlier, the vision Serkis had for this story is what keeps you interested and engaged when you may be ready to fall asleep. Like other true stories, I am sure there are countless of other stories just like this one, it really all depends on who gets their story out there to spark someone’s interest to get told to a massive audience. Breathe may have an average rating on many review sites, even though I am sure someone somewhere will mention these performances for an award or two. 7/10
