Spy Game (2001)

I can’t believe I waited almost twenty years to watch one of the greatest spy movies I’ve ever seen in my life. There are like 15 words I could use to describe this movie and the performances from Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Exciting, engaging, interesting, cunning, slick, powerful, meaningful, emotional, fun, clever, and creative. I love the misdirection of both character stories the entire film and how they come together at the end. Anytime the US government is involved in a spy operation, it will either be a success or a mess. This is a little bit of both with solid field action and dramatic office interviews. On the last day of his career, Redford’s character must do one final job to save the life of his protegé, who is on death row on the other side of the world. For a guy who has lost most of his clearances and doesn’t have the ability to go out into the field, he’ll be in the game of a lifetime to protect his own image and legacy. 9/10
