State of Play was an intriguing look into the life of a journalist who has to decide whether a high-profile friendship has to come to end when a dead secretary promises to derail a federal investigation. Jammed pack with an amazing cast, Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Daniels, Jason Bateman, and Helen Mirren, this government cover up story has all the right ingredients to be epic, but never came through with a knock out punch to leave me in awe. I was surprised with the twist at the end, then again maybe I didn’t see the signs coming a mile away. State of Play was a pretty decent story about journalism and digging for the truth, no matter how dark it ended up being. I’m not sure whether this was about the corruption that elite power can bring, or about a guy who won’t let personal things decide the fate of his professional life when the truth is at sake. 6/10
