Annihilation (2018)

Annihilation is this year’s most talked about movie, so far. I wonder when they say most talked about, does it mean they are taking about the performances, the story, or the meaning behind it all. Quite honesty I don’t care what this movie was about or how great the performances were, because it was by far the most pointless and meaningless movie I’ve ever seen. Was this a story about dual personalities? Alien invasion? Things that go bump in the Shimmer? Nature evolving? Cell division? Was this a recap of 8th grade science class? Seriously…what the #%$! was this movie about? Why did it waste the talents of Oscar Issac? I am not a fan of Natalie Portman so what was so special about this performance? I may never know or fully understand Annihilation, which is fine, because there are a lot of you out there who will love this movie and watch it again and again. I’ve come to learn there are certain movies that appeal to me and many that don’t. Annihilation was so bad that I wanted to watch Arrival again (which also involved aliens on Earth). I absolutely hated that film, but at least that movie made sense and served a purpose. I swear I want to like movies and give them a fair review, yet some of them just rub me the wrong way and I just can’t bring myself to say anything nice about them. 1/10
