The Mighty Ducks (1992)

The Mighty Ducks is definitely the ultimate family movie. Disney not only cornered the market with a hockey trilogy that wins with everyone, but it also gave birth to the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL. It is kinda funny to think that if Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) never gets pulled over and given community service, what would have happened to the District 5 hockey team. If you were a kid growing up in the 1990’s, the Mighty Ducks were the coolest kids ever. Now if you look back at this movie today and if you work in the industry, you know the majority of the scenes are unrealistic and the lack of protective equipment would have been a major safety hazard. If you can look past all that and enjoy it as a cinderella team achieving the impossible and giving kids all over the world the hope to over come the “bad” guys. The movie focuses on doing the right thing and always owning up to your responsibilities, as well as the bond of being a family. Sometimes sports is all a kid will have to escape any personal problems at home or school, so having strong friendships is a key to being successful in life and on the ice. You can understand that this is pee wee hockey in Minnesota and most of the crazy tricks they pull on the ice would not really happen, but this movie is purely for entertainment purposes, so take it all in and just enjoy it because there is nothing quite like it. 8/10
