Black Panther came out on February 16 and I finally got around to watching it on March 12. Honestly I didn’t feel what the hype was all about. This story, which was another Marvel visual masterpiece, really lacked what Doctor Strange and Ant-Man brought to the table. I expected to be entertained from start to finish with lots of laughs and silly, but realistic situations. Instead I was rather confused on what humans know about Wakanda and what they don’t know. At least in Wonder Woman, her magical home is in the middle of the ocean away from human life. Wakanda seems to just be in the mountains of the poorest country on Earth, yet they do nothing to actually help people anywhere. This movie is so long that half the movie the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) is chasing down one bad, only to turn around and spend the second half of the marathon recovering to fight a whole new bad guy. What super hero movie needs two bad guys? I understand what they set out to achieve with this movie both on and off the screen. What made me wait so long was the hype. Someone asked me the other day how excited I was for Avengers, and I am just meh about it. Movies like Black Panther are just getting forced down our throats and yes I love super hero movies, but now the advertising, spoilers, and daily filming updates have made these movies bigger than themselves. Black Panther was just another movie for me. One that featured the hero going down and losing everything he had, only to get saved and make a comeback. This is why I feel Black Panther was just another movie that didn’t break the mode. It will be interesting to see where things go from here, both in Wakanda and the Marvel Universe. 6/10
Yeah, I’m scared to see it as I feel the hype will kill it for me.
Nowadays I feel that since I follow so many movie news feeds and blogs, film advertising and chatter just gets shoved down my throat. My opinion going into movies has already been decided based on people’s comments and reviews. Sometimes I wish I could just disconnect from social media stuff, but at the same time I feel like I’d be missing out on something ha ha.
