I Can Only Imagine (2018)

It may take a minute, but I guarantee that at some point in your life you have heard “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe. According to the end credits, this is the highest grossing Christian song ever written, and the story behind is extremely depressing. Bart Millard (J. Michael Finley) grew up with Dennis Quaid as his father. Only problem is this is not the Dennis Quaid we have all come to love over the years. This is an worn down abusive alcoholic, who destroys everything in his path, including Bart’s future. No offence to any movie that has ever come before it or will after it, but this story follows the rags to riches story perfectly. It even has one of those gut check moments when the main character wants to give up on his life and find a new path. It is tough to knock Christian movies for fear of bad karma, but I have seen so many better stories and far worse. This was truly in the middle. I cared enough that I had tears in my eyes, but I also really didn’t care that everything worked out for this guy and his group.   5/10
