Veronica (2017)

Veronica is on Canadian Netflix. This horror movie is being billed as the scariest movie in a generation, yet only sports a 6.3 rating on IMDb and a really high 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this movie was nothing special. Everyone knows Ouija boards are not to be messed with. This story has probably been played out in every language, and until the game changes, every movie will be the same. Bad spirits seem to wait for idiots to come knocking and then come back to the real world to cause crazy things until they feed on souls. Veronica (Sandra Escacena) gets in way over her head with three siblings, an uncaring mother, and some terrible friends. All these factors will lead to her untimely death in a “real life” story from a detective who witnessed the procession. Overall the parlor tricks employed throughout the movie never raised a hair on my arm and the black creature was never threatening. The only aspect I thought was neat and creepy was the burn marks on the mattresses, but that along wasn’t enough to save the whole movie. This movie was recommended to me and even though it appeared to scare that people, I’ve been scared by a lot of worse. Veronica is really in the little leagues when it comes to bone chilling horror movies.  2/10
