Isle of Dogs is the brainchild of Wes Anderson, the guy who gave us Fantastic Mr. Fox (great movie) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (terrible movie). I went into this film with much excitement because the slow-motion animation is enjoyable to watch and the voice cast for this movie was amazing. Brian Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, with Liev Schreiber, and many others. There is a warning at the beginning that states the movie will be in native tongue and translations will be provided when necessary. When Atari (Koyu Rankin) talks, there is sometimes English subtitles and other times not. The dogs do a great job describing everything that is going on, but there are some rather head scratching moments. I chuckled many times through out because I loved the dog and cats jokes. The story may not make a whole lot of sense, but it would be hard not to express the gratitude I have for the creativity on display in the movie. Whether it is the dog features, trash island, or how much of the Japanese culture is depicted. 6/10
My problem is I’m not a fan of Fantastic Mr. Fox, so I’m hesitant about this film.
What didn’t you like about Fantastic Mr. Fox?? Hilarious story with a great voice cast!
I dunno. I just can’t get into the story. I’m not invested in it or the characters. I don’t find the story interesting. I don’t find a lot of the humor funny. I mean, I respect the stop-motion animation, but that’s about it.
