Shrek was a huge success both with critics and audiences racking in almost half a billion dollars. Of course when studios find success, they try to reap the benefits and launch sequels and prequels. Shrek 2 continues the fairy tale of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz). The humor and craziness leaves the swamp lands and heads to Far Far Away Land (which is like Hollywood) where the newlyweds met the parents and Fiona’s old flame Prince Charming (Rupert Everett). After a spell to get Charming closer to the throne, Shrek, Donkey, and new trouble maker Puss in Boats (Antonio Banderas) spend the whole movie trying to get back to normal. The gang of fairy tale characters is back from the original film, where the story goes down some dark roads and leave you laughing begging for more. The pop culture references only get better in the sequel that tries to mock everything under the sun. Shrek changed the game on how we view family friendly movies, while trying hard to build upon the base it set in the first one. Most of it works while a few things don’t. Either way, Shrek 2 is a movie everyone can enjoy especially if you were a fan of the first one. 7/10
