Shrek the Third is where the franchise took a turn for the worse and lost me as a fan. Everything that worked in the first two movies was missing here. Sure the jokes, pop culture references were there, just not on the same level as before. We are two stories in, so no one can say well sometimes sequels are not that good, this isn’t the sequel, it’s the third time around. Shrek (Mike Myers) Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) go on yet another mission to find the new heir to Far Far Away Land because Shrek doesn’t want to leave the swamp. His grumpiness and same old routine kinda get on my nerves in this one. His character really hasn’t changed since day one and he shows no interest in change. This story really isn’t about Shrek and his life, the story now shifts to how crazy are the adventures he can go on with Donkey and Puss. Meanwhile Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) is still trying to take the crown and does whatever he can to mess with Princess Fiona’s (Cameron Diaz) life. Was that subplot really needed, naw, because Shrek adventures and trouble with Lancelot (John Krasinki) was more than enough to carry the movie start to finish. It amazes this movie made almost a billion dollars. Don’t fear fans, the worse is yet to come! 4/10
