There have been plenty of times in the past when I have mentioned that sequels sometimes ruin great ideas, and those attempts to make extra money off of us back fires. Cars 2 is really the pinnacle of those feelings because we never needed this movie, but got one anyways. Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) are now international stars and spies. Let that sink in for a minute. A dirty rusty old tow truck is a James Bond like spy. Yeah I’m still trying to block the image out of my mind. What was Michael Caine thinking? This was definitity a bad idea to sell more cars. If they wanted to give Mater his own story, they could have done a Dory like movie where they detail his upbringing and how he ended up in Radar Springs. I sincerely wish I had more positive things to say about a movie with Eddie Izzard in it (favourite comedian), I just can’t find the worlds. There were so many aspects of the original movie that just crashed into the side walls, that I’m glad this wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. Then again, this Car franchise showcases that not everything Pixar does results in Oscars. These movies may have been nominated for things, but Lightning McQueen has never been able to bring home the big prize. 3/10
