The first rule of growing up is…don’t talk to strangers. Ma is dark, twisted, and takes the typical revenge angle to a whole new level. You’ve never seen anything like it and once you watch it, you can’t unsee it either. Octavia Spencer is brilliant here. Sadly the kids bring all the drama upon themselves, but Spencer is amazing at selling it and upping the stakes of her plot. The most amazing thing about this story is this could actually happen. There are many dark souls out there who would do anything for revenge. Blumhouse has given us far better stories in the past, but Ma sits in a class all on her own.
