I really wanted Hobbs and Shaw to be a non-stop comedy. I was hoping that the pent up aggression between Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (Jason Statham) would lead to chaos. There is chaos, and there is some comedy, just not at the level I expected from the trailer. Sure, there are a lot of jokes about personality, past career choices, and size. Throw in a bunch of cameos, fast cars, and a race against time storyline, it just turned into another entry in the Furious franchise. The film did little to separate from the absurdly that the Furious franchise is these days. Yes, there is an end of the world plot device, but thankfully it wasn’t a bomb. I got to admit I was sad with how things ended for the bad guy. He deserved a much better fate, but his demise did set up this spin-off film to become its own franchise. Oh, don’t forget to stay in your seats because there are THREE end credit scenes. 7/10
