A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood (2019)

What a terrible day in the neighbourhood.

It took me most of the night, but I tried to think about a movie that I was so excited for and left utterly destroyed by it.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was supposed to get Tom Hanks another Oscar and be the story “that we needed today.” Well, sorry to disappoint all of you, but I hope Hanks doesn’t win the Oscar, and this was definitely not a story I needed to see today.

This movie is not about Mr. Rogers, beloved children’s program actor, but instead a story about a guy who profiled Mr. Rogers. This guy’s personal life is a disaster, and through his interactions with the calm and collected Mr. Rogers, comes to realize he needs to change.

I have zero clues about how that relates to the present since Mr. Rogers comes from a different time. I didn’t need to know about this guy’s personal life or problems, I wanted to know about Mr. Rogers. This movie was supposed to be about him and his show, not the other guy.

This film is rather dull with weird parts thrown in to drive you even more crazy. Mr. Rogers deserved a better story, plain and simple. 1/10
