If you have a good memory, you’d know that the first test screenings of Sonic the Hedgehog were a disaster, and the movie was shelved. Animators went back to work and tried their best to give us this final product that was recently released.
When they relaunched the trailer, I said to myself, this looks fun. I will be entertained and will enjoy the performances of James Marsden and Jim Carey. It may surprise some of you, it may not, but I was excited about the release.
A long time ago, I played video games and enjoyed the Sonic games. It has been a long time, but the memories are still there, which meant I was able to enjoy the gaming references in the movie. The best parts are the many video game and pop culture references. Sonic had the audience laughing nonstop as he tried his best to blend in and stay alive.
One final thing to point out is even though Carey’s performance is really over the top, his enthusiastic personality really fits this bad guy.
Like always, I like to go against the grain when it comes to movie ratings and what I like and don’t like. I left Sonic thoroughly impressed with this movie and will welcome a sequel if it stays on par with this one. 8/10
