It is tough to criticize a movie about the empowerment of women and the Me Too movement. Although if you are going to throw a film at us about the importance of the issues at hand, pick something better than Bombshell.
Hailed as one of 2019’s best movies, based on the subject material and the makeup department’s transformation process, Bombshell lacked the spark to keep the fire going.
Despite throwing together three of Hollywood’s leading ladies to helm this project, there just wasn’t enough to the story to be the game-changer so many people make it out to be.
These women were taken advantage of, that can’t be denied, but they also choose to partake in those actions to get a better position in the company. After realizing how wrong it all was, they suffer through the consequences of speaking out.
All in all, it is a compelling drama, even though the actresses did nothing to convince me of performances. I wasn’t sold on their struggles or their actions. I can understand that news jobs are a dog eat dog environment, but I didn’t sense the pressures here. Everything seemed so nonchalant.
I’m not here to start a political war about these situations, I am just here to say that Bombshell is only the beginning of these types of movies that are headed our way. This wasn’t the worse film to lead the charge, but they could have done so much better. Here’s hoping for a brighter future and no one more box office bombs. 3/10
