Some may call me crazy, which is okay because Blue Streak is based on a career criminal who becomes a cop. So don’t hate the player, hate the game.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Martin Lawrence, except his performances in Bad Boys. However, I could watch Blue Streak over and over again.
This movie is outrageously funny from start to finish. Lawrence’s over the top emotions and expressions really sell how desperate he is to find his missing diamond. What makes the story even funnier is his dumb partner, played by Luke Wilson. Together these two are the blind leading the blind on the streets of Los Angeles.
Another aspect of the film that makes this so unbelievable, yet enjoyable, is how the LAPD falls for a fake badge and cooked up personnel records, while never catching on to Lawerence’s lack of knowledge of the job. He does his best to sell his skillset, and they just fall for it every time. The whole conception makes for a good comedy.
I recently just watched this movie again for the umpteenth time. It never gets old. I know you may not feel as happy as I do when I talk about it, but given the buddy cop movies out there and the other cop comedies, personally, this ranks right up there with the best. 8/10
