Underworld: Blood Wars was the latest and last entry into the Underworld saga. It was released in 2016 and was the second film I caught at the theatre. As mentioned in previous entries, I vaguely remembered what was going on at this point. After watching the first four installments recently, I can now fully understood what Blood Wars was all about.
I reviewed this movie in January 2017 and can say that after three years, my opinion hasn’t changed much. This is officially my favourite film in the series to date.
After a discussion with my watching partner in crime, my wife, I went on to describe why I liked it so much. She gave me a few counterpoints, but I stood my ground on my thoughts. It has been a few days since we watched the film and it is still fresh on my mind.
I loved that this particular part of the story had two powerful villains, working towards the same goal but on two totally different paths. They double-cross the one’s closest to themselves in hopes of gaining the upper hand in the ongoing battle.
The final confrontation is one of the best action sequences, where bullets rain down like raindrops. Bodies are carved up left and right, and there’s no telling who is going to come out on top until our heroine makes a dramatic comeback.
Some of you may be disappointed that this final film is my favourite. If you know me or read my reviews, you won’t be surprised. 7/10
