Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990)

People are going to think I am crazy (nothing new there), but Die Hard 2 is the best movie of the franchise and the one I watch more than any other.

I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly that makes me love this movie. It may be the winter background, the ever-changing atmosphere of a holiday rush at the airport, or the sarcastic humour of our hero John McClaine (Bruce Willis).

Even though some of the action sequences are literally blown out of proportion, this non-stop action thriller doesn’t hold back on the drama. Whether it is airplanes crashing, firefights in church parking lots, or chases on snowmobiles, McClane will find himself in some deep trouble (again).

He’ll not only fight the terrorists, but he’ll be resisting local and federal law enforcement who thinks he’s crazy. I’ve seen this movie so many times that I can quote all the best parts as well as the other parts I love.

This time around, McClane finds himself once again in a situation way over his head, considering the massive area he has to cover, but at least he has far more access to weapons than being stuck in a skyscraper.

I feel this movie exposed his character to far more dangerous situations, yet at the same time showed us a whole new side to his personality and skill set. No ordinary cop, anywhere in the world, would be able to pull half of the crazy stunts he does, but that is the greatness he brings to the character and is what keeps us coming back to see him.

Although I am scoring this movie the same as the first one, I still feel this is by far the better movie. 9/10
