Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack (2017)

I want to think that any movie with a hashtag symbol in the title would be garbage. So far, I’m 100% on that assumption.

Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack has to be one of the worse movies I’ve ever watched. It was a home media release that tried to blend reality TV with cheerleading. It is a super cool concept, except that American Idol has had that covered for the last 20 years, and everyone else has tried to copy it ever since.

The dumbest angle of the whole reality TV concept is the voting took TWO HOURS! In what world, with social media and everyone looking at a screen for 24 hours a day, does voting for a contest take two hours?! I don’t even care if the idea was run out to raise the drama…there was no mind-blowing drama, to begin with. You know who is going to win this competition by watching the opening credits. It was actually more comical to watch the upset squads who had no business being in the game get angry when they lost.

As I look back at this miserable 1:35 movie, I can’t think of one positive thing to say about it. The whole “Truth” squad idea was rather lame. I understand that rival cheerleader squads are usually tabbed as the “bad guys” in these films, but this whole idea went above and beyond what was necessary for a movie about high schoolers.

Oh, and before I forget, I have to mention this movie has a reality TV show, hosted by The Cheer Goddess. This show is hosted online, so cheerleaders across the world can call in and discuss their issues with… someone who used to be a cheerleader? There is no character development on her. Anyways Cheer Goddess ends up hosting the final showdown, so good for her to get the rights to the show to host on her show.

This review is a mess, and so was this movie. I don’t give zeroes here, but this one deserves it. 1/10
