Must Love Dogs (2005)

Must Love Dogs came out in 2005, just when online dating was all the rage and was becoming an acceptable way to meet your dream partner. However, in the beginning, it seemed you were crazy about trying online dating, but after so many successful stories, it became the most modern way to say hey to a cute someone.

Sarah (Diane Lane) is now divorced and isn’t interested in online dating. Jack (John Cusack) is also recently single with the same feelings. Thanks to input from family and friends, the two end up on a site and mutually matched. There is a spark, an interest from both parties to pursue something, but life pops up one roadblock after another. Eventually, both agree that it wouldn’t work out, even though fate continues to push them together.

I’ve owned Must Love Dogs since it came out on DVD many years ago. If I recall correctly, I even went to see this movie at theatres. I’ve always liked Lane, and I will watch anything with Cusack in it.

This film also stars Christopher Plummer, Stockard Channing, Elizabeth Perkins, and Dermot Mulroney. Together the main cast will have you laughing from how crazy they can get along. Whether it is posting false information in their dating profiles, singing theme songs, or giving bad dating advice, you get a sense from all these characters that they are ordinary people. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and no matter what life throws our way, our family will always be there.

I thought there was chemistry between everyone, including our stars Lane and Cusack. This won’t be the most popular date movie, but it will be a fun night if you decide to watch it with someone special. 6/10
