It is pretty safe to say that we’ve all had a best friend of the opposite sex. We’ve also all been in love. Sometimes those two don’t go together; it is just fate. No matter what kind of relationship you have with your best friend, you should always support their decisions and put your feelings aside if you really value that person.
Wally Mars (Jason Bateman) has had romantic feelings for his best friend Kassie (Jennifer Aniston). Sadly for him, she just never felt the romantic spark, and that really had an effect on their friendship. Things took a thing for the worse when Kassie decides to use a sperm donor to have a baby. While drunk one night, Wally replaces the donor’s sperm with his own.
This comedy could be seen in two different ways. It can be viewed as creepy since the guy chasing the girl hijacks her pregnancy to be closer to her. The only other way this story can be seen as is drunk people don’t make the best decisions, and after messing up something precious, they did the best they could to rectify the situation.
To be quite honest, there isn’t a whole lot to laugh about in this one. Why it is labelled, a comedy is a head-scratcher for me. It is also a drama and romance, which really sums everything up. Some may laugh at how corky the Wally character is because of Bateman’s performance, but there’s nothing else there to keep you barrelled over.
No matter what you take away from The Switch, you have to admire Kassie’s decision to keep Wally in her life. Social media has really shown the best and worse of the human race. One would assume that if this happened in real life, there would be some video about how nasty this situation could have gotten. Since this story took place on the pages of Hollywood and meant to be light-hearted, all is forgotten and forgiven by the time the end credits roll. 4/10
