If you have ever seen Scream 4, you will come to know that there are several fake introduction sequences and a reference to Saw IV. The actress complained that horror movies these days are all about “gore porn” and use the amount of bloodshed as a selling point instead of actual suspense.
Through a recommendation from my mother, of all people, she had told me a long time ago about his graphic movie I Spit on Your Grave. Initially, I was hesitant to watch this particular film because it didn’t seem like something that interested me. She and her boyfriend were huge horror fans, and a good chunk of their collection included all good and bad scary movies.
This movie is not for the faint of heart. In case you don’t know and don’t want to look it up, this movie is about a rape and the revenge the victim inflicts on the guys who mistreated her. The story and the actors did not hold back in their performances. It is gross and disgusting on so many levels, but sadly realistic. People would hate to admit it, but this kind of stuff happens all the time, just no one ever talks about it.
When I say this happens all the time, I don’t mean that bad people actually pay for what they did wrong; I just mean innocent girls are violated against their rights. Some will question why Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler) would venture into a place all alone, but writers need to find a place for inspiration. She just happened to pick the wrong place at the wrong time.
Once you get through the quiet beginning and the multiple rape scenes, the movie turns up the suspense and gore. After gathering up the tools necessary, Jennifer will lie in the dark and wait for her opportunity to stalk and mutilate the guys one by one. She is very creative and smart with the limited resources she has. She orchestrates each death to resemble the way each guy violated her. The content can get pretty graphic and looks like it came straight out of a Saw movie.
Like I mentioned earlier, this type of film will not be for everyone. If you can make it past the half way point, you will pleasantly rewarded with some pretty awesome kills. 7/10
